St. George Information

Saint George, Utah

Consistently ranked as one of the fastest growing cities in the nation, St. George, Utah provides an ideal mixture of big city appeal and small town feel. The city has become a popular retirement destination and a favorite getaway spot for those seeking pleasant weather, unrivaled scenery and year-round recreation.

Located in the southwest corner of Utah, St. George is the gateway to many spectacular scenic wonders, including Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Cedar Breaks National Monument and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Closer at hand, visitors will find Snow Canyon State Park and Red Cliffs Recreation Area, two spectacles of southern Utah’s signature red rock scenery. In addition to its sandstone spectacles, St. George is near popular alpine recreation areas, including the Pine Valley Mountains and Brian Head Resort, the highest elevation ski area in Utah.

In the last decade, the St. George area has become a center for shopping and the arts.

The Zion Factory Stores, the city’s premier shopping location, is home to over 30 outlet stores that will please bargain hunters, including Eddie Bauer, Van Heusen, IZOD and Polo Ralph Lauren. The city is also home to the Red Cliffs Mall and top-name retailers such as Best Buy and Kohl’s. Nicknamed “Broadway in the Desert,” the Tuacahn Outdoor Amphitheater is St. George’s most popular theatrical venue. It presents four first-rate musicals every year in a scenic red rock setting. Other cultural options include the St. George Musical Theatre and the Utah Shakespearean Festival, which runs from June to October in Cedar City, located 50 minutes north. The city’s cornerstone cultural event is the St. George Arts Festival, held every Easter Weekend. The festival is a showcase of the work of top regional artists. It also features live entertainment, food vendors and children’s activities.

St. George is brimming with pioneer history. It is home to numerous pioneer-era structures, including the St. George Tabernacle and St. George LDS Temple. The tabernacle opens regularly for public tours while the temple is closed to the public. However, visitors can tour the exhibits at the temple’s visitor center and stroll through its well-manicured grounds. LDS missionaries provide guided tours of the Jacob Hamblin Home and the Brigham Young Winter Home, two immaculately restored pioneer residences. Visitors interested in prehistory will enjoy the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm, which displays over 1,000 petrified dinosaur tracks, as well as fossilized dinosaur remains. Farther away, visitors can check out a few of the area’s ghost towns, including Silver Reef near Leeds and Grafton, only four miles from Rockville.

One of the main reasons visitors flock to St. George is to play a round at one of its nine golf courses, which include Entrada at Snow Canyon and Coral Canyon, two of the top five courses in the state according to Golf Digest Magazine.
